The choice to breastfeed your child is the best choice to make for your child's overall long-term health. Because of its nutritional composition, human milk is the ideal food for human infants. The American Academy of Pediatrics believe that breastfeeding is the optimal source of nutrition through the first year of life. They recommend exclusively breastfeeding for a minimum of four months, but preferable for six months, and then gradually adding solid foods while continuing breastfeeding until at least the baby's first birthday. Thereafter, breastfeeding can be continued for as long as both mother and baby desire it (American Academy of Pediatrics, Caring for your baby and young child: birth to age 5). However, if your lifestyle does not allow you to breast feed, the La Leche Mafia is not going to come after you. This section goes over the process, my personal experience and rewards of breastfeeding.
